The Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, or Thatcham as it is known, was established in 1969 by British Insurers. Thatcham is a not-for-profit organisation, whose main aim is to carry out research targeted at containing or reducing the cost of motor insurance claims, whilst maintaining safety and quality standards.

Thatcham Quality Accreditation (TQA®) is a robust verification programme for the assessment and recognition of automotive aftermarket devices. TQA® concentrates on building and verifying quality in the manufacture, design and performance of a product.

Each product is rigorously tested to predefined criteria established by Thatcham and, where appropriate, its partnering organisations. This testing, supported by rigorous examination of quality system and manufacturing process controls, is intended to provide confidence in the product performance and an objective evaluation of its capabilities.

All of this is monitored and periodically reviewed throughout the duration of the accreditation to ensure that the levels of quality, service and performance are retained.

Thatcham Quality Accreditation does not guarantee insurer recognition, as this is negotiated individually by the product manufacturer and their insurer partners.
